Sport
Sport
Every child has the opportunity to represent the school in sports, provided they attend weekly practices. Pupils can take part in Netball, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Dance, Cricket, Swimming, Cross-Country, Rounders, Tennis, and Athletics. We are proud to enter the ISA regional and national tournaments each year, where our teams consistently achieve strong results. Over the years, Salterford House has celebrated ISA Midlands championship titles in Tag Rugby, Swimming, Tennis, and Netball, and we have regularly qualified for national ISA tournaments in these sports as well as in Athletics.
Our sporting involvement also extends to the Gedling Area, where we compete in a wide range of tournaments, including Rugby, Netball, Football, Tennis, Cricket, and Lacrosse for both boys and girls. Recently, our children with additional needs have also been out to local schools to learn the skill of Table Cricket and Boccia.
For a small school, we have amazing team spirit and can often win against much bigger schools. We always teach the children to give their very best and play as a team.
Some of our weekly extra curricular team practice sessions include:
- athletics
- cricket
- hockey
- tennis
- football
- netball
- rounders
- cross country running
In addition to these teams and clubs we offer sessions in climbing, golf and a range of outdoor and adventurous activities.
The Arts
Music
At our school, music is at the heart of every child’s experience! From Kindergarten through Year 6, students enjoy engaging weekly music lessons, and from Year 2 onwards, everyone has the chance to learn the recorder. The ukulele is a recent addition to our school curriculum in Year 6. With a talented team of specialist music teachers, children can explore a wide variety of instruments, including piano, flute, drums, singing and ukulele, nurturing both skill and creativity.
Drama
Our LAMDA Speech and Drama lessons are a firm favourite with many of our pupils and all the children enjoy performing the Christmas plays for their families and staff. Pupils at Salterford House are also able to take part in our drama club, putting on a full scale musical production each Easter as well as opting to enter LAMDA examinations that are held twice a year.
Another highlight for the children is taking part in the annual ISA Drama Festival, where we have won many trophies over recent years, including prizes for the best musical 16 times! Many of our children have received national awards for their individual performances and we have a number of students who go on to secondary schools with drama scholarships. Drama is a real strength of the school.
Visits and Speakers
Visits
Educational day trips play a vital role in enriching our pupils’ learning experiences. At Salterford House, we organise a variety of regular visits to places such as Belton House, Creswell Crags, Nottingham Castle, Patchings Art Centre, Yorvik, Conkers, and Stratford-upon-Avon—where our pupils have even had the unforgettable opportunity to perform Shakespeare in the Birthplace Garden before a large and appreciative audience.
Beyond day trips, we also offer exciting residential experiences. In the past, these have included skiing trips and visits to the Normandy coast. In Year 6, pupils spend a week in North Yorkshire, combining fun with fieldwork amidst the idyllic landscapes of the Yorkshire Wolds.
Visiting Speakers
We regularly welcome speakers to our school to meet with and inspire the children. Recently, our EYFS department enjoyed a visit from a local optician, the firemen from the local fire station and the local doctor. The older children have had the chance to get involved in a workshop from Wateraid, a number of sportsmen and women as well as people of different faiths who help the children celebrate a range of religious festivals throughout the year.
